June 17, 2010 I just returned from an incredible trip with my family to Argentina, Rio de Janeiro, and South Africa! It was a wonderful trip! South Africa truly is one of my favorite places to visit. One of the highlights was attending an event for The Nelson Mandela Children's Fund in South Africa - to help raise awareness of their needs. To learn more about this great organization, check out their website at: www.nelsonmandelachildrensfund.com I loved Rio and Argentina! The people were very warm and friendly, the sights were gorgeous, and both had wonderful foods and great shopping! The Last Song: March 31, 2010 Disney’s, “The Last Song” was released on March 31st. I hope that you all had a chance to go out and see this wonderful movie. It was so much fun working with Miley Cyrus, Greg Kinnear, and all of the rest of the talented cast! The Last Song Charity Event: March 30, 2010 I had a charity event in my local hometown of Ocala, FL. This special charity screening of my latest film, The Last Song,” raised nearly $20,000 to support two charities that are very special to me—“Boy Scout Troop 331 of Ocala,” which is a troop of special needs boys and men and “M.O.M.S.” (Memories Of Missing Smiles), to help create a park for people who have lost children. The event was a great success! January: 2010 The Travolta Haiti Relief Operation – N707JT Responding to the disaster that occurred on January 12, 2010 in Haiti, with a devastating earthquake, Johnny and I took immediate action. We flew down 20 medical professionals, 16 of them doctors. And as per physicians’ request currently on the scene in Haiti, a list of emergency medical care items, surgical supplies, vaccines, antibiotics, medicines, ready to eat meals, other food items and water were flown to Haiti. The following people and organizations came through in a big and very generous way to fulfill that request by donating these critically needed items:
All in all these organizations and individuals donated goods totaling seven tons, which were delivered directly into the hands of medical doctors and relief workers on the ground in Haiti who immediately put them to use. Johnny and I would like to send our heartfelt thanks to all of them and thank them for the lives they have helped us save. All our love, John and Kelly February: 2009 In memory of Jett, the Jett Travolta Foundation has been established. The Foundation shall endeavor to use its resources specifically to assist and provide relief to children with vision, hearing, mobility, communication, behavior learning impairments or other special medical, environmental, health or educational needs. It may also use its resources, and make grants to educate the public about the need for a clean environment, provide relief and assistance to children who are victims of natural or man-made disasters, and to fund children's educational programs. Check or money orders can be made out to: Jett Travolta Foundation, Inc. Official website: www.jett-travolta-foundation.org January: 2009 We would like to extend our deepest and most heartfelt thanks to everyone who has sent their love and condolences. Jett was the most wonderful son that two parents could ever ask for and lit up the lives of everyone he encountered. We are heartbroken that our time with him was so brief. We will cherish the time we had with him for the rest of our lives. We have received many messages of condolence from around the world and we want to thank everyone for their prayers and support. It has meant so much to us. It is a beautiful reminder of the inherent goodness in the human spirit that gives us hope for a brighter future. With love, John, Kelly and Ella January: 2009 -To The People of Ocala, Florida The enormous amount of love, support and condolence we have received from this community has been most humbling. Comforting words, thoughts and prayers of Ocala's citizens have made an impossibly painful situation, a little less painful. The actions of Ocala's community leaders, its law enforcement professionals, our neighbors at Jumbolair and its surrounding communities have offered us the dignity to grieve the loss of our son and Ella's brother in peace. For this we will always be grateful. From the people who drove hours to drop off cards and flowers at our doorstep, to the service providers who made Jett's ceremony so beautiful, thank you. Every person who we have encountered has offered to do anything in their power to help us, but add that they feel powerless to do so. We want all of you to know that you have already helped us. By sharing our grief, you lessen our burden. For all of the people who have kept Jett in their prayers, know that those prayers have given us inspiration and strength. What we have experienced in Ocala transcends neighborly civility. We have been treated as family. Although we lost a good part of the joy and radiance of our family, your embracing us as a member of your own has helped us to contend with our loss. In parting, we want all of you to cherish your loved ones and your friends like there was no tomorrow, to live your lives to the fullest by continuing to help one another, and to be true to yourselves. Love, John, Kelly and Ella January: 2009 -To The People of the Bahamas We have always believed that a person's true character reveals itself in the most difficult situations. For us, the loss of Jett on the morning of January 2 was the most difficult situation we could envision. The character, love and true friendship of the Bahamian people became immediately apparent during our time of crisis. From the Prime Minister and the former Prime Minister, who immediately expressed the condolence of the Bahamian people, to the management staff and employees of Old Bahama Bay who fiercely protected us from further hurt, at a real cost to themselves. From the police and medical professionals in charge of the official investigation who executed their responsibilities in a private and dignified manner, to the EMTs, Rand Memorial Hospital personnel and coroner whose pain was as evident as our own. Of special note was the assistance of Keith McSweeney and his associate of the Restview Memorial Mortuary and Crematorium. The grace and accommodation extended by these gentlemen at this most difficult time will always be appreciated. All actions taken by both men were at our direction and pursuant to our express request. The love, sympathy and protection as a member of your family, which was extended to us during this most trying of times, will never be forgotten. We remain as one, with the people of the great island nation of the Bahamas. Thank You.
